Born from a very poor family on the suburbs of Salvador, Brazil, namely Morro da Gamboa, Paulo spent most of his childhood learning from his father how to build and use fishing rods, as a tool for work, and kites, as a tool for fun. After turning 18 and having to do mandatory military service, Paulo, armed with the skills of discipline and perseverance, decides to learn technology.
In this book, Jacó is a social joke, victim of cancellation and really can’t find a girlfriend no more.
He ends up chaste against his will, and finds solace in religion. He becomes a very intense devotee of Jesus Christ and other spiritual leaders (towards the end), including joining many temples and churches from different stems. He never ceases to be religious.
After spending most of his adult life as a fisherman, and after Jacó returns from the military service and learns about technology, Jacó and Mark end up architecting a revolutionary technology, that founded by Marcus as 8th Generation, and later rebranded as Autumn Corps, given the easier market adherence, makes of Marcus one of the biggest references in the sector of industrial, corporate and governmental technology and a multibillionaire father.
While serving in the military, Jacó’s first assignment is to keep a watch over-night in the quarters. Marcelus, who’s the son of the most powerful general in Brazil, suffers from insomnia while overthinking about deep stuff, given his genius’ nature. While he goes out every night to smoke his Marlboros, him and Jacó start fostering a profound friendship, as they realize they are as smart as each other, and dive way too deep into subjects.
Given their different backgrounds, Jacó sometimes perceives things more to the left, and Marcelus more to the right. That often leads them into personality clashes, and their challenge is to find balance in that, although often, they need to stay years without communicating with each other.
He is always pissing Jacó off about arresting that bitch of Lulu after the break up.
